English fans ripped off ENGLISH football clubs have been accused of ripping off fans as new research shows that season tickets in this country are still by far the most expensive in Europe.
Cheapest Leeds United, as a Championship side are not even in top flight football anymore but charge fives times as much for their annual passes as AC Milan, one of Italy's top two teams.
The cheapest season seat at Elland Road is £480 and an equivalent seat in the San Siro is £85.
The Liberal Democrats are demanding that the FA, which has already promised to look into ticket pricing, make an announcement well ahead of the start of the 2006 /7 season next year.
The call came as football clubs up and down the country announced the prices of their season tickets which Premiership and Championship clubs charging much more than their European counterparts.
Research, commissioned by the Liberal Democrat party looked at the cost of European clubs' cheapest adult season tickets.
Leeds United's cheapest adult season ticket, for a spot in the ADT East Family stand, costs more than all of the top two teams from last season across Europe – including Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece and Portugal.
Excellent
Don Foster, the party's sports spokesman, said: "This shows that rip-off Britain is alive and kicking in English football.
"Many football clubs do excellent community work off the pitch, but the games themselves must also be accessible to all.
"I am concerned that the closest young aspiring players will get to a top-flight football match is a sofa in front of the TV.
"On my insistence, the FA said they would look into this matter earlier this year. Now they must act fast so supporters don't face exorbitant prices next year."
England's top club Chelsea, based on league position at the end of the season, is charging £650 for its cheapest adult season ticket and Arsenal, number two, £885.
Italy's number one Juventus is charging the equivalent of £153, and the number two AC Milan £85.
Spain's top team Barcelona is charging £181 and David Beckham's side Real Madrid, the number two team £285.
Disgusting or what....

I've given up trying to get to games these days, 4 kids and bills have to be a priority. I used to stand in the Hammy End for a quid as a lad, season ticket was free when I got in to my late teens, early twenties (I was a lottery agent for the club). Away days used to cost less than a fiver in the 90's, but you can poke your £30+ where the sun doesn't shine.
The average working man is being priced out of the game we love
